Chinese Delegation from the Hong Kong Education Bureau Visits GVA Northglenn

Principal Nicole Caldwell hosted a welcome meeting to introduce the history and model of Global Village Academy and answered questions regarding testing, teacher qualification, grade level collaboration and more.

Four GVA Mandarin students took them on a fifteen-minute school tour. The delegation was very impressed by how well the students spoke in Mandarin. They were also excited to see how much the students loved being a part of a language immersion school and learning the Mandarin language.

The group toured first-grade to fifth-grade Mandarin classes. They were very happy to see communicative, theme-based instructional approaches in class. The delegation’s curriculum specialist was very impressed by the students' communication skills and class engagement. The visitors pointed out that the students did very well in reading and writing integration. They took many pictures of student’s writing samples.

After the tour, GVA Mandarin Program Coordinator and Coach Cheng Hong shared the Mandarin curriculum project framework, theme mapping and the daily instructional model. Additionally, the  2nd grade Mandarin teacher shared a couple reading assessment samples with them.

The group from Hong Kong concluded their trip by visiting Sloan’s Lake Park and having lunch in Denver.
