Let me take this opportunity to introduce myself. I am an educator with 22 years of experience; 7 years as a secondary science teacher and fifteen years as an administrator.
I have been blessed to have worked in very diverse environments including: rural, high achieving, low achieving, a school of innovation and an International Baccalaureate School. My family and I have lived in Colorado Springs for the past forty years. My husband Jim and I have two daughters, however we are currently empty nesters. One of our daughters, Bailey, is a Texas Christian University graduate (Go Frogs!) and is currently pursuing her Master's Degree at Clemson University. Jordan, our oldest daughter, is a PhD candidate at the University of Tennessee. Clearly, we are a family that values education!
Throughout the process of interviewing at GVA DC and learning about your school, I was repeatedly impressed with the accomplishments demonstrated by a staff committed to student success. When members of the selection committee spoke about the innovative language immersion program and school-wide focus on developing cultural intelligence, they spoke with well-deserved pride and a commitment to the GVA mission.
"It is the mission of Global Village Academy that all students will become fluent and literate in English and a second world language, excel academically in core content subjects, and develop 21st century skills, including cross-cultural understanding."
It is clear to me that you take the mission statement of your school very seriously and that it drives both the focus of your work and the way you do that work each day. I look forward to contributing to the successful realization of this mission.
Again, thank you for the opportunity to become a member of your impressive school community. It is an honor that I will work hard to deserve. I look forward to meeting each of you in the weeks to come.
