About Me

With enthusiasm I join Global Village Academy in its mission to prepare this generation for a rapidly shrinking global community. I am excited for our students experiencing other cultures and languages, preparing them for a world community. As a team member, I look forward to providing my first grade students a strong foundation to reading, writing, and speaking English.

As a child I remember playing school and wanting to become a teacher. Teaching runs in my family with my brother, mother, and grandparents having been teachers. This lead to my earning a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education from Bethany College, Kansas and Master’s in Special Education from the University of Northern Colorado. I have taught in a variety of capacities from preschool, to kindergarten, and middle school special education. As an adult, I can think of nothing more rewarding than watching students grow educationally, emotionally, and physically!

Personally, I love to learn about different cultures and have visited eleven countries in Eastern and Western Europe. I also participated in four mission trips within the America’s. In addition to traveling, I enjoy family time with my two nephews, Robert and Hunter. I enjoy spending time with family and friends, walking my lab/boxer mix Babe, and scrapbooking.

I am looking forward to the school year ahead!

Sadly...

Dear Parents,

In the last couple of weeks, random things have gone missing from my classroom.  We are missing magnetic letters, magnetic syllables, plastic geometric shapes, black circle magnets, sun magnets, and other math materials.  It is difficult to teach without these materials and they are really expensive.  If you find any that have accidentally made it into backpacks or pockets, please send them back to school.

Thank you,

Ms. Folkestad
