A Letter To Parents

Dear parents and students:

Welcome back from Summer Break! This is Wang Laoshi from 2nd grade Chinese class. Here are some information that I want to share with you:

What We Will Learn This Year

Please remind your kids to communicate as much Chinese as they can in my class, and this is also what I’m trying to push this school year.

The curriculum that we are using: ACTFL standards based curriculum for Chinese, Envision math for math and FOSS for science. Students will be with the immersion teacher for half day and the other half with the English teacher.

Class Rules

In Chinese class, I will be using the behavior chart to monitor students all cross different subjects. Moreover, I’ll have agreed ruled posted on the wall once we discuss it with our students.

Homework

I will send out homework links for vocabulary practice and online reading shortly. There will be character spelling worksheets and online practice for Chinese. Chinese homework will be sent home on Monday and due the following Monday.  If I did not receive it on Monday, I will either email you or send home notice for that. Math homework will be optional.

Class Parties/Birthday Parties

We’ll have three class parties per school year: Winter Party, Valentine’s Party, and End of School Year Party. Flyers will be posted on my door for parent sign-ups. For birthday parties, please at least inform me or English teacher one day early so we can plan it accordingly. Parties normally take place in the afternoon.

Communication

I always think communication is essential, and good teacher-parent communication would really help students’ success in school. Weekly newsletter covers what we are doing in class and in school. I will send hard copies back home first. Later, you will find it posted on my school’s website under staff information.

Please feel free to contact me by school’s email: wwang@gvaschools.org. I will reply it within 24 hours. You can also schedule appointments with me before or after school. I welcome your thoughts and am looking forward to working together to make it a successful year!
