August/September Leveled Readers

Dear Families,

Is your child improving in reading?  Reading nightly is one way to improve fluency, accuracy and reading level.  Our goal is for students to be reading at grade level when they leave 1st grade.  At GVA we use Fountas and Pinnell leveling.  At the beginning of the year, students should be reading a level D and by the end of the year they should be at a level J to be considered on grade level.  Check out these leveled readers that I post each month to practice reading at home.

If you haven't been to a local library, try to do that this month.  You can also read books online for free through many of the libraries. If you have a library card with Arapahoe Library District you can access hundreds of great picture books on TumbleBooks through the link KIDS.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Woolington
