Dear Global Village Academy-DC Families,
I am absolutely thrilled and fortunate to be the new reading interventionist at GVA-DC this school-year. As a reading support teacher, I would like to express my joy and dedication while sharing some information about my educational background and professional experience. I received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Northern Colorado in Spanish with an endorsement in Elementary Education (K-6) and Linguistically Diverse Education (K-12). I have sixteen years of teaching experience. Prior to coming to GVA, I stayed at home with my four children. I taught for thirteen years in Denver Public Schools and Cherry Creek School District. I have taught first through fourth grades in both English and Spanish. I also did extensive training in reading and was a Reading Recovery/Reading Intervention Specialist in Denver and Cherry Creek. In addition, I have two years experience teaching high school Spanish. Then, I switched hats in there and worked at the Colorado Department of Education in their English Language Acquisition Unit. This is my third year at GVA, and I genuinely love it here. I call GVA "my school family!"
This year I am eagerly going to be working with students in Kindergarten through seventh grade as a reading support teacher. The reading intervention program is a positive and supportive program designed to give students the extra boost in reading and writing in order to promote academic growth and self-esteem. In addition to providing reading support to our students, I am also one of the AVID Elementary site team coordinators.
I look forward to getting to know all of you and reconnecting with those of you I already know. I enjoy working collaboratively with teachers and families alike in order to ensure progress and achievement in all of our children. You can call or email me any time with comments, questions, or concerns. I'd love to hear from you! Thank you in advance for a great school year.
