My name is Dorian A. Leiva. This is my first year at GVA as an ELD teacher, however, it is my 11th or 12th year teaching. I have taught in China, Indiana, Kansas and Kuwait. I have taught Essay Writing, Math, Science, and Social Studies and was even an Academic Dean at a school in China.
I was born in Chicago to Guatemalan immigrants.I am the second of three children. I have a Canadian wife and an American, Canadian, Chinese hybrid baby with a Japanese first name. I graduated from Indiana University (GO HOOSIERS) in 2004 and 2006. I am currently working toward a Masters in ESL.
When I am not at work I enjoy camping, fishing, hunting and riding my mountain bike.
Middle School Field Trip Oct. 10
The Middle School ELD classes will be going to Chautauqua Park in Boulder on October 10th. We will learn about activities in the park. The staff will teach us about the Leave No Trace rule as well.
All students must bring a bottle of water, good walking shoes, a coat, a hat, sunscreen, and indicate if they will need a bagged lunch provided by the cafeteria.
The permission slip is to be signed and turned in by October 2nd. The cost of the trip is $7.
We will leave at 0900 and return at 1300.
Students may NOT bring a backpack, they must be in uniform, and they may NOT have their electronic devices with them.
Week of 18/09/2007
This week in Grade 5/6 we will be studying the Unit entitled Virtual Field Trip: Beach Destination.
We will be using topic-specific vocabulary in the past tense to produce expanded descriptions of natural places and wildlife at the beach.
Also, in Grade 7/8 we will be discussing Animal Testing. The students will
create a generalized/personal statement about Animal Testing, based on evidence using specific nouns.
