Kindergarten Reading Lessons

Learning to read is such an exciting phase of life, one of my favorite with my own children!

Many of our kindergarten students are already "breaking the code" when it comes to reading, and others are coming along the way at a great pace. There is so much that we can do as adults to make a difference for our child when it comes to teaching the important skills that are needed to learn how to read.

I have been working with Mrs. Crouch this week to help her learn some of the things that I did as a Kindergarten teacher to focus on each reading skill that is needed to become a fluent reader.  Rather than just explaining everything to her, I came in and taught the reading lessons for four days.

Knowing that what you do at home can make such a difference, I wanted to give you the opportunity to come in to see the same reading lessons in action.  During these lessons, you will be given the opportunity to both see a lesson, and then discuss what you can do to teach/support these skills at home.
  • The lessons will all be on Thursday, March 9th at three separate times, 8:10, 11:30 and 3:20.
  • There will be limited spacing for the lessons at 8:10 and 11:30, but I can take anyone that shows up at 3:20 (we will do the lesson in a larger room at this time).
  • You will be given some reading activities that you can do with your child, and will hopefully go away with a better understanding of the skills that are necessary to help your child become a fluent reader.
If you are interested in attending (whether you have a Kindergartner right now or not), please email me at [email protected].  I look forward to seeing you soon!
