GVA Douglas County's Award Winning Art Program and Teacher Extraordinaire Ann Steers!

GVA DC Art Teacher, Ann Steers went above and beyond this year in her support of International Days and our mission of cultural competence. Ann designed her teaching units around International Days and each and every GVA student created fabulous art as they learned about the 8 different countries we studied this year. Ann also sponsored GVA student artwork at the Parker Library, organized the Artome portrait fundraiser, and led the charge to decorate GVA with hundreds of flamingos!

Great News for Charter Schools in Colorado!

It's Official! House Bill 17-1375 to Become Law! HB 17-1375 was introduced this week incorporating the key components of Senate Bill 61 -- designed to provide a more equal share of local mill levy override dollars to charter public schools.

GVA Middle Schoolers in Costa Rica

Each year, GVA offers International Trips for interested Middle Schoolers. Students from GVA Northglenn and Aurora visited Costa Rica in May 2017 and participated in helping with work to reverse the effects of deforestation of mangrove trees along the coasts.

The group visited Costa Rica for 8 days learning about the importance of conservation and keeping ecosystems stable.

GVA Mandarin Teachers Present at the National Chinese Language Conference

Global Village Academy Mandarin teachers (from Northglenn and Aurora) were invited to the 10th Annual National Chinese Conference held in Houston, Texas.  Chen Hong, Yanjuan Zhu, Micheal Swift, Jianing Guo and Lichang Tan shared successful instructional practices, collaboration and coaching strategies with national teachers, administrators and policy makers.

Global Village Academy Aurora Raises Money to Send Girls to School in Congo

For the last two school years, GVA Aurora has allowed students to wear jeans to school for a $1 on certain Fridays. The money collected is donated to an organization that helps girls in the Democratic Republic of Congo attend school. Without financial support, these girls would not be able to attend school.

Already this school year, the students and teachers have raised $1070 for the Muanjadi Organization. This is enough money to send 14 girls to school next year. Last year, GVA Aurora was able to sponsor 35 girls.
