17th Annual Youth Essay Contest

The writing topic is "Make an Impact," which is inspired by baseball legend and humanitarian Roberto Clemente, not only for the way he played baseball, but also for always seeking ways to help his community thrive. Clemente will always be an example to follow on and off the field. We hope that by sharing his story, students will be inspired to write about the heroes in their lives who have made a positive impact on the world or how they see themselves with that challenge in their own lives. The GRAND PRIZE this year is a Colorado Rockies "Make an Impact" assembly for your school and we will award this to one winner in each of two grade group categories, K-3 and 4-6! Applicants must be enrolled in Elementary School. The writing/essay should be 500 words or less.

It's very easy for students to participate ...
Students: Write an essay or poem on the topic of "Make an Impact," whether about one of your heroes who has made a positive impact or how you aspire to make a positive impact in your world. Include qualities you admire or a story that reflects those qualities. Email your essay or poem to [email protected] by September 3, 2019.

Just for participating, each student will receive four tickets to a game September 13, 14, 15, 16 or 17 (based on availability and at the discretion of the Colorado Rockies).

Overall winners will be contacted by September 20, 2019 and the winning writers will be recognized in an on field ceremony before the Sunday, September 29. The winning essays will also be featured in the April 2020 Rockies Magazine. The Grand Prize will be a Colorado Rockies special assembly at your school, hosted by mascot Dinger!

GOOD LUCK!
