New things going on at GVA

GVA Aurora
 
GVA Aurora celebrated the Taste of GVA on November 9th.
 
The exciting annual event celebrated culture through food, activities, music and entertainment. Families and staff brought food dishes that represented their family heritage and guests were entertained by Folklorica a Philippines dance group and more.
 
Aurora recently wrapped up their football and volleyball seasons. The girls Royal volleyball team took 2nd place in the final tournament. The school also hosted their first Artome art show recently. Students and families had the opportunity to view art from all grades as well as purchase framed art!
GVA Colorado Springs
 
GVA Colorado Springs was busy with several engaging family events during the first few months of the school year.
 
In September, Oktoberfest was celebrated. Families enjoyed dressing up in traditional lederhosen or other costumes, traditional German food was served and many fun, family activities were provided.
 
In October, they held their first ever Trunk or Treat which was followed by the movie Incredibles 2. This was a new event for GVA and one that families seemed to love!
 
In early November, the Spanish Cultural program took place. This event showcased grade level performances for the student body and families. On Veteran's Day, the school hosted a large program in which many students sung in a choir and eight students read letters they'd written to our servicemen and woman.
 
GVA CS also hosted a Super Hero literacy event, an evening event for Understanding Assessments and their Family Fall Writing event. Most recently they held a coat, shoe and food drive to support families in need in their school community. 
GVA Douglas County
 
In August, Douglas County hosted their Annual Back to School Pancake Breakfast. This Back to School event was heavily attended and a fun way to start off the school year.
 
September saw the launch of Middle School sports at GVA Douglas County. Students formed their first Cross Country team and competed against other Denver-Aurora charter school teams. The GVA boys teams took first place in their last meet and the girls came in third. In November, students signed up for the first basketball teams for GVA DC. Games begin in early December.
 
GVA DC students participated in their annual Fun Run in late September. As a school, they ran 10,331 laps, which equaled 645 miles! Families raised over $10,000 to be used towards STEM at GVA Douglas County.
GVA Fort Collins
 
GVA Fort Collins families were treated to an evening of Fables de la Fontaine. The 1st-5th grade French Village performed along with songs from the Kindergartners. Families enjoyed a potluck dinner following the performances.
 
The school is planning their first Winter Holiday Showcase and Breakfast with Santa in early December.
GVA Northglenn
 
GVA Northglenn had a visit from Denver 7's Chief Meteorologist, Mike Nelson, in September. The students also participated in their Annual Fall Fun run.
 
In October, GVA Northglenn offered free evening classes for parents on a variety of topics including English for parents, supporting your student in math and english plus sessions from the school psychologist. The classes were held in English and Spanish.
 
Students have been involved in middle school sports and band. Try outs were held for Odyssey of the Mind and the musical Hamilton. The middle schoolers held their fall dance in November. The PTO and GVA families also hosted their annual Thanksgiving potluck for staff and teachers.
