This October we studied Guatemalan Art and the giant cubist murals of Carlos Merida. Students listened to the Marimba, the national instrument of Guatemala as we created our multi-media masterpieces including: masks, worry dolls, watercolor and collage cubism pieces, quilled reticulated Quetzals (the national bird or Guatemala), textile arts and embroidery. Our "Art of Guatemala" is on display at the Douglas County Library in Parker through December 9th. Afternoon students did an outstanding job planning and creating their "World Traveler" W.O.W. projects. You are invited to view these wonderful original works on display in the art cases through mid-December. The GVA Art students and I continue to enjoy our monthly grant from Jerry Silverhart Farmer's Insurance. This month club met on October 31st and used alcohol ink to create beautiful floral bowls.“Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.” Edgar Degas Keep creating! -Mrs. Steers
